For twenty-five years I worked as a nurse, caring for people through some of the hardest and most meaningful moments of their lives. Every summer, my family drove to Golden Bay, New Zealand, and every time that fresh coastal air hit, something in me exhaled.

Eight years ago, a boutique came available here on the coast. My husband David looked at me across the kitchen table and did not say a word. He did not have to.

After years of caring for others, I think he knew I was ready to build something that cared for women in a different way.

I handed in my notice. We moved. And on a warm January morning, I opened the door of Dianes Golden Bay for the very first time.

Now I am sixty-four, and it is time to close this chapter.

Not because something went wrong.

Because something went beautifully right.
